Hinter’m Zaun
Die doppelte Umzäunung der ehemaligen Rochdale-Kaserne trennt
das frühere Sperrgebiet von der direkten, zivilen Nachbarschaft.
Im Mittelpunkt der Arbeit steht die Auseinandersetzung mit der
Präsenz dieser Grenze, sowie der Interaktion der Anwohner mit ihr.
Der Fokus richtet sich auf die sich auf den Umgang mit dieser Grenze
und dokumentiert das beginnende Verschwinden der Barrieren –
ein Ausblick auf die bevorstehende Öffnung und Umgestaltung des Geländes.
Entstanden als Hochschulprojekt in Kooperation mit der Transurban Residency 2022.
The double fencing of the former Rochdale Barracks separates
the still restricted area from the immediate civilian neighborhood.
My work centers on an engagement with the presence of this border,
as well as the residents' interaction with it. The focus is on dealing
with this border and documents the gradual disappearance of the barriers
– a look towards the upcoming opening and redevelopment of the site.
Created as a university project in cooperation with the Transurban Residency 2022.
Eine anfängliche Suche nach Bildern von Unbeschwertheit und Spontanität
entwickelte sich zu einer Untersuchung über die Gleichzeitigkeit unterschiedlicher,
teils gegensätzlicher Empfindungen. Während der Arbeit mit meinem Archiv
bin ich auf eine Sammlung unterschiedlicher Lebenswelten und auch Gefühlen gestoßen.
Die entstandene Serie stellt Fotografien aus verschiedenen Lebensphasen gegenüber
und untersucht eine andauernde emotionale Dualität. Es wird das Nebeneinander von
Freude und Hoffnung auf der einen Seite und Ängsten und Ungewissheit auf der
anderen thematisiert. Es ist eine visuelle Erkundung von Gefühlswelten, die teilweise
trotz veränderter Lebensumstände gleich geblieben sind.
An initial search for images of lightheartedness and spontaneity evolved into an
exploration of the simultaneity of different, at times contradictory, emotions.
Working with my archive revealed a collection of diverse life experiences and feelings.
The resulting series juxtaposes photographs from different phases of life and
examines an enduring emotional duality. It addresses the coexistence of joy and
hope on the one hand, and fears and uncertainty on the other. It is a visual
exploration of emotional worlds that have, in part, remained the same despite
changing life circumstances.

Während der Coronakrise beeinflussten Einschränkungen
das alltägliche Leben teilweise sehr stark. Alles fand auf einmal
zu Hause statt, der Ausgleich blieb dabei oft auf der Strecke.
Angetrieben vom Wunsch des Ausbruchs entstand die Idee
unsere Umgebung zu bereisen, nur mit einem Bahnticket
und einem Rucksack mit dem Nötigsten, so als wäre es
ein weit entferntes Urlaubsziel.
Im Zentrum der Arbeit steht dabei dieser Eskapismus
im kleinen Maßstab: die Erkundung von Orten in der Umgebung,
die das Gefühl vermitteln, weg zu sein. Die Erfahrung dieser Reisen
wird dabei zu einer Auseinandersetzung mit sich selbst,
einer Freundschaft und neuen Orten.

During the Corona crisis, restrictions had a significant impact
on everyday life. Everything suddenly took place at home,
and finding a sense of balance often fell by the wayside.
Driven by the desire for an escape, the idea arose to travel
our surroundings with only a train ticket and a backpack
containing the bare essentials, as if it were a distant
holiday destination.The work centers on this small-scale
escapism: the exploration of nearby places that convey
the feeling of being away. The experience of these journeys
thus becomes an engagement with oneself, a friendship,
and new places.
